On Air: Automation - UIC Radio

Becoming a DJ

1. When does UIC Radio look for DJs? -We typically look for DJs at the start of the Fall and Spring semesters, but we will always accept a DJ application. Whether we consider the application at the time of receiving it, or holding it till the start of the semester depends on available time slots, number of shows, and time left in the semester.

2. How can I become a DJ? -Write up a complete professional resume and a cover letter that tells us a little bit about yourself as well as your show idea. -Record a 10 minute show demo on CD of what your show would be like. Please ensure it is a mix between the music and YOU hosting it, and you do not need to play the songs in their entirety. -Put all 3 items inside of a sealed envelope marked Radio Show Application and deliver it to the Campus Programs office located in the Student Center East building 3rd floor South Room 340.

3. Do I need radio experience to become a DJ? -No. UIC Radio is here for students to gain experience in radio to carry on with them to a professional level. Applicants dont need to even intend to go into radio-related careers, a love for music, radio, and talk is all that is needed. No technical skill is needed either, we will train you on proper use of all studio equipment.

4. My favorite genre of music is Industrial Polish Rap, can I base a show on that genre? -The beauty of UIC Radio is our independent approach to selecting shows. We typically like to get at least one show for all major genres of music, but it definitely isnt limited to popular genres. UIC Radio represents the diversity of the UIC student body so let us know your idea, no matter what kind of music it is, and we will most likely be happy to comply!
